Science
Key Stage 3
Year 7
Students in year 7 are taught a variety of biology, chemistry and physics units, which emphasise the experimental nature of science. Laboratory techniques and safety are an integral part of the course alongside the theoretical basis of science. The majority of the work, is based around thought-provoking experiments which aim to inspire the students as well as develop their skills and knowledge.
Year 8
Students in year 8 continue to build upon their knowledge of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, which is underpinned by the material covered in year 7.
Year 9
Students will be studying broad science topics aimed to prepare them for GCSE trilogy science which is the most common pathway when they return to mainstream. We have the option to enter students for a CREST award during the year in addition which shows a students aptitude for scientific enquiry.
Key Stage 4
Students begin the AQA Triple science GCSE course of primarily Physics with the option of swapping to Biology depending on areas of need. The course is delivered over two years and results in one GCSE. All will work through a variety of topics covering the disciplines, the emphasis of which will be to develop the knowledge and understanding of Science and the scientific issues which confront society.
The course will enable students to:
-
Gain a better knowledge and understanding of Science
-
Develop abilities and skills that are relevant to the study, practice and application of Science, which are useful in everyday life and encourage safe practice.
-
Acquire a systematic body of scientific knowledge and the skills needed to apply this in new and changing situations in a range of social, industrial and environmental contexts.
-
Develop an understanding of scientific issues
